I have had three professional careers: as a soldier, as a corporate consultant and as an entrepreneur. I have spent almost a decade in each, so my professional interests are diverse.
As a consequence of my first career, I have deep interest in matters of national security including foreign policy, military security, geopolitics, terrorism, as well as military history, military geography and advances in military technology.
In my second innings, I developed an interest in a wide range of enterprise IT and applications, software product development, IT service delivery, consulting practice development as well as project and program management. I also follow developments at the cutting edge of information technology, recently - cloud, social networks, mobility, big data and analytics.
I have had the good fortune of working with some of the best and brightest minds in a number of companies, including many Fortune 500, and in industry sectors as diverse as Automotive, Aviation, Advertising, Chemicals, Electronics, Food & Beverage, Healthcare, Insurance, Logistics, Life Sciences, Packaging, Pharmaceuticals, Transportation, Services and Telecom.
Bridging the first two careers is my interest in tactical information distribution systems, C4I2/C4ISR/ISTAR systems, air-land battle management systems and geographical information systems (GIS).
As an entrepreneur, I continued my interests in information technology, specifically technology lifecycle management, development of greenfield IT services and consulting practices, development of capacity for program/ project/ portfolio management, and executive alignment for the delivery of strategic outcomes, more specifically, in its impact on the nature, quantum and timing of investments in new IT.
Of late, my personal and professional interests appear to be merging as I explore opportunities in sustainable energy (solar, microhydel), e-waste management, ecotourism and outbound adventure training, specifically aerosports.
If there is an opportunity out there that catches my eye, I will consider it, provided of course, it is not capital intensive. These days, I spend a lot of time studying the market for trends, developing new business models, analyzing delivery methodologies, conducting trail marketing to gauge traction and sustainability of new business models, of course, all while continuing to explore new technologies. I am often tempted to jump back into a regular job if something interesting comes along or if it provides new experiences. Of course I dread the organizational politics, the bickering and the adhocism that prevails, but I am older and still able to adapt quickly to new roles so that shouldn't be a problem. Of course, once you get bitten by the entrepreneurship bug, it is tough to find a cure. Cash flow and funding will of course always be a bugbear for all entrepreneurs, however that too is just a phase of growth.
